Our Mission

Every child deserves a healthy smile.

Too many children in underserved communities live with untreated tooth pain. They miss school, lose sleep, and grow up believing their smile is something to hide. The cost of inaction is measured in confidence, in opportunity, and in the lasting health of an entire generation.

Children deserve dental care delivered with the same dignity and skill regardless of where they live.

Smiles Bring Hope was founded in 2009 by Dr. Sabita Smail and Dr. Douglas Smail to bring dignity and care directly to the children who need it most. Through volunteer-led missions, faith-based partnerships, and uncompromising clinical standards, we meet families where they are. The work is simple, and it is sacred: one smile, one child, one act of service at a time.

Smiles Bring Hope began in 2009 when Dr. Sabita Smail (DDS, MBA) and Dr. Douglas Smail (DDS) saw children going without the dental care they needed simply because of where they lived, and decided to change that themselves.

Trained clinicians, volunteer mentors, and lifelong advocates for children's health, Sabita and Douglas have led every mission, every partnership, and every program since the organization's first year. Their work has reached communities across continents. Their conviction has stayed simple: every child, one smile at a time.

Our Story

Service, faith, and the power of a smile.

Smiles Bring Hope started with a question: what would it take to give every child the same kind of dental care a parent would seek for their own? Not a watered-down version of treatment for those who could not pay, but the real thing, delivered with the same dignity and care.

Our missions began in church basements and community halls. They moved to mobile clinics, to schools, to faith partners on three continents. The work is hands-on. It is unglamorous. It is also a form of love made visible, because healthcare given freely is one of the clearest ways to say to a child: you are seen, you are valued, your pain matters.

If that conviction matches yours, there is room for you here.

We are looking for partners for the long road.

Kenya is the foundation we built on. The Dominican Republic and St. Lucia are where we are planning to go next, and work at that scale is not built by one organization. It is built by long term partners who commit to a place and stay with it.
